A proven concept

Formula BMW is the world's leading, entry-level class of formula racing. The series enjoys a great success and provides tremendous competition as every driver is placed on an absolutely equal foot with strictly identical equipment. Racing at the wheel of the same car, the ability and commitment of the young hopefuls determine their results, not the technical superiority of a team. As well as giving equal opportunities to all, the set-up restrictions of the FB2 single-seater are limited as the youngsters are gingerly introduced to professional Formula racing, and not swamped with too many modifications.

One of the great assets of Formula BMW Europe is that almost all the races take place within the prestigious show case of a F1 Grand Prix weekend. This undoubtedly provides an extra boost of motivation for all the young drivers who display their talent in front of a community they dream of joining some day. This year, the season is made up of 16 races spread over eight weekends, with two races per event. A free practice and a qualifying session lead up to the races which last approximately 20 minutes from the start to the chequered flag. Introduced in Germany in 2002, the series has produced four current F1 drivers: Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Timo Glock and Adrian Sutil.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: "Formula BMW has evolved from a standing start to become the leading entry-level class of Formula racing worldwide. We provide the young drivers with the requisite tools that will enable them to work their way through to the higher Formula classes."
